21 Self-Reflection Questions to Process the Year
Written by : Beri Gebrehiwot
Can you believe we’re in the last month of the year? Wow! What a year it has been. A year of confusion, hurt, loss, uncertainty, hidden gems, new found joy, self discovery, reconciliation, re-ordering of perspectives and one big roller coaster ride of emotions.
Regardless of what the year looked like, one thing I love to do at the end of the year is take time for Reflection. It’s my way of gauging my year and taking perspective of what really took place and measuring my performance, my growth, my successes and failures all together. Unpacking and processing my year in this way gives me so much fuel and motivation for my next season!
During our Virtual Self Care Summit, I opened up Day #1 with a Self-Reflection exercise to help us recall on our experiences in this year.
I hope you will take the time to do this exercise and process your “year in review” with me as I share some of my own personal reflections and lessons for this year.
Remember, the purpose of Self-Reflection is not to shame or criticize yourself, it’s simply to take note of past experiences for better understanding.
Here are some of my favorite quotes of Self-Reflection:
“Women need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away.” – Barbara De Angelis
“Honest self-understanding liberates us from our stuck emotions.” – C Terry Warner
“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.” – Margaret J. Wheatley
“Reflection… Looking back so the view looking forward is clearer.” – Unknown
“Self-reflection entails asking yourself questions about your values, assessing your strengths and failures, thinking about your perceptions and interactions with others, and imagining where you want to take your life in the future. – Robert L. Rosen
